For educators
Universal Design for Learning treats learner variability as expected. Use multiple ways to engage, access information and demonstrate learning—while retaining individual accommodations where needed.
CUHK online learning
CUHK has developed a series of online courses to strengthen understanding of diverse learning needs and practical approaches to inclusion. Staff versions have been prepared on CUHK Moodle @ KEEP for designated staff learning. Information on broader access and sharing can be explored with the respective course teachers and relevant University units.

The project concluded on 30 November 2025. Selected later activities are shown to demonstrate continued dissemination and collaboration.
Basic and advanced sessions in Cantonese and English; 119 total attendances across four workshops.
Zoom, Panopto and SEN Service training, plus a public lecture on assistive technology.
Assistive Technology Sharing Session and continuing student tea gatherings.
CoP workshop with the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies.
The project surfaced operational barriers around lecture-recording access for students with SEN and proposed a default opt-in accommodation model, subject to personal-use limits, no redistribution, safeguards and an instructor opt-out mechanism.
Reported activity included an “Assistive Technology for Accessible Classroom” workshop attended by eight students at HKBU in September 2025; consent from 60 students for the project to use their University survey data to build machine-learning models, with 60 randomly selected students serving as controls; and special invitations to 60 students to join the Mental Health First Aid Captains programme in AY2026–27.

These proposals used AI for exploration. They are concepts—not deployed CUHK services—and would require privacy, accessibility, consent and academic-governance review before implementation.
For students who occasionally miss classes for health-related reasons and need to reconstruct likely coverage from official materials without replacing the teacher.
Guardrail: Students verify generated content against official materials and instructor guidance.
For students who have explicit permission to record but cannot upload sensitive lecture audio to cloud services.
Guardrail: Audio stays on the student’s device unless an approved service and permission pathway explicitly allow otherwise.
For learners who want frequent, lower-stakes checks that direct them back to relevant course materials before gaps become high-stakes problems.
Guardrail: Guidance should point back to source materials instead of simply delivering answers.
